Re: Help i have an identifided guitar
if theres no name or identification....its probably a cheapish generic left handed strat copy ( shape)
can't it be refurbished using the original parts...it unlikely that the pu's etc will be
damaged..prehaps a bit of resoldering / new strings / and setting up will get it up
and running again???...most of these copies ( if it is ) can be set up to play and sound
as good as the more expensive counterparts with a bit of TLC (is the bridge assy intact??)

could help to see if it is KAY.
Re: Help i have an identifided guitar
Remove the guitar's neck if you cannot find the serial number anywhere else. Most vintage Silvertone guitars have the serial number stamped on the neck pocket, which is the piece of the neck that hugs the body of the guitar. Remove the strings and unscrew the screws at the base of the neck. Carefully separate the neck from the body of the guitar. Look for the serial number in the neck pocket.(quote from previous link)
( the switches and knobs look like a silverstone/kay???)

Re: Help i have an identifided guitar
looking at that... the bridge is missing off the first photo...the tailpiece is probably
a bigsby type ....with a spring and sits on top....so it needs a simple bridge and a new trem arm
is it possible to post a macro ( close up ) of the tailpiece...and broken trem arm
you can buy the trem springs off ebay if its missing (£4.99)
seehttp://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-60s-TEISCO-Harmony-Guitar-Whammy-Bar-Tailpiece-/390310763605?pt=Guitar_Accessories&hash=item5ae0559c55#ht_737wt_1061 ( copy this to your browser )
it seems now like the top half of the trem arm is missing..unless its to one side
it is definately a kay.............pick your money up james

Re: Help i have an identifided guitar
By the way guys its not a left handed copy ive only just noticed that my webcam has reversed it its a right handed one and as for the neck i took it apart and there is no identification on it like serial number, but it has created more work for me because the screws were rusted and snapped in half so half screws are stuck in the neck now
mitch
btw thanks and ill look at my local guitar shop for KAYs see if they can help now i have identified the make
Re: Help i have an identifided guitar
Ebay is your best bet I think the stoped making Kays in the 80s.
Re: Help i have an identifided guitar
If it all gets to much I can give the old axe a good retirment home
Re: Help i have an identifided guitar
nah sorry i dont want to get rid of it as it was a gift and its my first guitar so it has a sentimental value to me
Re: Help i have an identifided guitar
Looks Japanese to me
Re: Help i have an identifided guitar
Deinitely Jap. I thought at first Teisco but I think it is a Kay, sometimes logo is a K in a circle I think. If all else fails with playability these old Japs make terrific Slide guitars as the pick ups are quite thick and warm generally. and you dont have to worry bout necks. Sometimes the more banana shaped the better. If you dont play slide give it a go.DADACD is a quirky tuning I like . Its a bit on the dark side though.
